So we've told you what not to use and we've told you what to use instead. Now we're telling you the most important part -- where to get all of things that we've recommended. There are so many natural products out there and a bunch of businesses that sell them now, so we've tried to narrow down that list to get you started. Some companies have products that are more natural than others that they sell, so don't forget to read labels! We welcome both your feedback about these products and your recommendations for brands that you enjoy. Some of these products can be found in your local grocery or natural food store, but most of them can be ordered online for your convenience.
The categories match the ones in the Consumer Product Guide and are listed alphabetically. And no, you're not imagining things -- some of the businesses are listed in more than one category. That's only because they sell mutliple products and we want to make sure you know everything they have to offer.
At the bottom of this big, long list are some recommendations for further information that are definitely worth checking out.
Now we realize that not everyone who is reading this is from Maine, but because we're based in Maine and because we advocate supporting local businesses, we've marked all of the Maine businesses with an *. For all of you people outside of Maine, let us know about the great local businesses around you too!
By the way, this list will grow continuously so be sure to check it often for new suggestions.

California EPA
California uses Reference Exposure Levels (RELs), which are equivalent to EPA Reference Concentrations and have units of mg per cubic meter of air. The support documents describe the available evidence of toxicity by inhalation and often include good discussions of acute as well as chronic exposure.

SCORECARD - The Pollution Information Site
Scorecard provides detailed information on more than 11,200 chemicals, including all the chemicals used in large amounts in the United States and all the chemicals regulated under major environmental laws. You can search for information by typing in the chemical's name (or any common synonym) or the chemical's standard identification number (Chemical Abstracts Service or CAS registry number).
www.scorecard.org
US EPA Chemical Toxicity Database
The US EPA evaluates chemicals for toxicity on a chronic exposure basis (meaning many years). Inhalation toxicity is represented with Reference Concentrations (RfCs, mg per cubic meter of air) for noncancer effects and Unit Risks (lifetime cancer risk per ug per cubic meter of air) for cancer. Ingestion toxicity is represented with Reference Doses (RfDs, mg per kg of body weight per day) for noncancer endpoints and Slope Factors (lifetime cancer risk per mg per kg of body weight per day) for cancer. More meaningful are the support documents, which discuss the evidence for toxicity from studies of animals and humans. These discussions come in three sizes: Quickview (small), Full IRIS Summary (medium) and Toxicological Review (large). The Toxicological Reviews are not available for all chemicals, but when they are available they can be very informative, with comments from external reviewers (be aware of who they work for) and other information.
